Your entrance is the launching pad of the energy in your house.

The pathway to your entrance is very important, so keep it clean and welcoming.

‘ Qi’ (chi), life-force, prana,  or whatever it is that you call the energy that keeps us  going, enters your house from – yes, you guessed it – the entrance!

Whether you live in an apartment, townhouse, or stand-alone home, always keep the pathways to your front door clean, clear and attractive. The same is true for offices and commercial spaces. It’s effective to have a pair of planters with lush, leafy plants flanking the main door. However, remember to keep a balance between the amount of open space and plants, planters or decorations in the area. Try not to have too much stuff right in front of the door that might impede the flow of energy. Allow space for the Qi to collect here so when you open your door it comes into your home like a breath of fresh air.

Curb appeal is the first step to good FengShui.

THE FRONT DOOR - Your front door should always be in good condition, open and shut without groaning!

According to FengShui, your front door is literally the mouth of the house from where it ingests nourishment, so it’s imperative that this is kept in good health.

Checklist: The door is well polished or painted, does not squeak or creak on opening or shutting, the lock is easy and smooth to operate, door handles are clean and comfortable to hold.

Whenever you vacuum your house inside, make sure you give the front door a good wipe down inside and out. Ensure there are no tiny cobwebs in any corner. Clean is auspicious.

The entrance foyer is called the ‘bright-hall’ or ‘ming-tan’. This is where energy that has entered, will refine it’s quality and circulate in the whole home, or office.

So, it goes without saying, that this area must be clutter free, clean, and peaceful. If you need to take off shoes, coats etc here, have racks and hooks for them. Keep everything here organized and tidy.

Can’t have –

-          A mirror facing the door – all the good energy will be reflected right back out. The mirrors should be to the side of the door, this will help multiply good energy.

-          A Staircase ending right in front of the door in line with the entrance, will cause money and luck to leave as easily as they come. If this is true for your home or office - place either a broad leafed plant or a round rug between the door and the staircase.

Can have –

-          A console with a vase of flowers

-          Any practical items needed here – placed neatly or hung (in a closet if possible).

-          A Laughing Buddha or anything that signifies abundance to you.

-          Key hooks on the wall.

Keep your entrance bright and well lit (remember ‘bright-hall?). This helps to uplift the energy and bring in more wealth opportunities. I can’t stress this point enough! Don’t let it get dark or dingy here, keeping the lights on in your entrance foyer will literally pay for itself. If you have windows or a sky-light here, that’s great, keep the blinds open enough to let light in.

What you see as soon as you enter any space is truly relevant to the good Feng Shui of that space.

From the entrance you must not see -

-          The stove or oven otherwise all your wealth will go up in smoke!

-          A clear, direct path to the back door or window – or opportunities will fly through and out!

-          A pot or sink! Or all your relationships will go down the drain!

Fortunately, most homes and offices are designed not to see these as we walk in. But just in case this does happen with your space, add a screen, curtain, or plant to block the view.
